Some Mountains Don't Look Like Mountains
Wednesday Morning Summit #6
Some mountains don't look like mountains. Some look like life.
🌅 Sunrise
When we hear the word mountain, we usually picture rock, elevation, and a snowy summit in the distance.
But some mountains don't look like mountains.
Some look like uncertainty.
Some look like a difficult conversation.
Some look like a career setback.
Some look like a health challenge.
Some look like rebuilding after a chapter of life ends.
The mountain you are facing today may not involve hiking boots or a trailhead.
But it is still asking something of you.
⛰️ Summit
One of the lessons the trail keeps teaching me is this:
The summit is never the whole story.
The climb changes us long before we reach the top.
Patience is built on the ascent.
Confidence is built on the ascent.
Resilience is built on the ascent.
The mountain in front of you may feel overwhelming when viewed all at once.
But mountains are not climbed all at once.
They are climbed one step at a time.
One conversation.
One decision.
One workout.
One application.
One day.
Progress often looks small when you're on the trail.
Only later do you realize how far you've come.
🌄 Sunset
Life is not a single mountain.
It is a mountain range.
Reach one summit and another appears on the horizon.
That's not failure.
That's life.
There is a Haitian proverb I love:
Dèyè mòn, gen mòn.
Beyond mountains, there are mountains.
At first, that can sound discouraging.
I think it's actually freeing.
It reminds us that challenges are not interruptions to life.
They are part of life.
So don't judge your life by a single mountain.
Keep moving.
Keep climbing.
And when you reach the next summit, take a moment to enjoy the view before setting your sights on the next horizon.
One Step at a Time.
